The Sky

August 17, 2008 at 10:02 pm (observations, stuff) (, )

While flying back the the States on the airplane, I noticed how beautiful the clouds were. During the two months that I’ve been in Korea, the tall buildings and the endless tops of mountains blocked my view of the sky. But now, the sky’s wonderful color seems to renew my mind and just make me feel happy. I feel like a hippie saying this, but nature is wonderful.  Don’t you think so? I mean what if there were no trees, mountains, flowers, canyons, ravines, rivers, oceans, waterfalls, etc.? What a dull world this would be. Next time, you should just try looking at the shapes of the clouds or the colors of the sunsets. I’m sure it will relax you a bit.

Make Searches Worthwhile with… Scour!

July 31, 2008 at 5:33 am (Earnings, Personal, stuff) (, , , , )

Ever get bored with searching? Well, make your searches worth something with Scour. Scour pays you points for using its search engine, which you can later redeem for visa cards ($25, $50, $100). Only 6,500 points are needed for the $25s. You might think this is a lot, but you get:

  • 1 point for every unique search

  • 2 points for a vote (You simply click thumbs up or thumbs down)

  • 3 points for a short comment!

You can get a maximum of 4 points per search. So if you searched, and then left a comment, that would be all you can earn for one search.
You also receive 25% of what your friends/referrals earn.

By the way, their search engine combines results from GOOGLE, YAHOO, and, MSN, so you get the top three search engines in one!

If your still suspicious on how long it will take to earn that $25, I did some math for you guys:

  • You need to earn about 17~18 points everyday in order to reach 6,500 points in 1 YEAR

  • You need to earn about 34~36 points everyday in order to reach 6,500 points in 6 MONTHS

  • You need to earn about 72~73 points everyday in order to reach 6,500 points in 3 MONTHS.

  • You need to earn about 216~217 points everyday in order to reach 6,500 points in 1 MONTH.

Again, this estimate is WITHOUT any referrals.
So why not give it a try, and earn something off your searches. Also,
you can read other people’s comments on different sites, which helps
sometimes.

Reviews

July 30, 2008 at 7:59 am (Earnings, stuff) (, , , , , )

I had a Money blog in the past, but I couldn’t find time to keep up with it, so I stopped. I made a couple reviews in a unique format, which I put too much effort into making to let it decay in a database, so I thought I might post it here in case it interests anyone. I put the link to the direct file, because it looks better that way. Let me know if you can’t access it for some reason. Please leave a comment if you like them. Makes me feel better xD.

EDIT: I will put up the other link when the server is not down. Also, the site that I reviewed is upgrading~
Thanks for the patience.

Why 0.99999999999999999999999999… is actually 1

July 29, 2008 at 3:47 am (observations, stuff)

Did you know that, according to some people, 0.99999999999999999… is actually equal to 1? Well, of course, this is still in debate, but the proof to getting this conclusion is quite persuasive. For example, to get this solution, you take 1/9 or 0.111111111111111111… . Then, if you multiply that by 9, you get 0.999999999999999… . However, if you look at the fraction, it is actually 9/9, which is the same thing as 1. However, because the number 1/9 is NEVER ENDING, we can’t really say that 0.9999999999999999 is equal to one, because the difference is almost non-existent. Think about it, what is the difference between 1 and 0.99999999(recurring)? You can’t determine it! if you say its 0.001, it’s wrong because that would be the difference between 1 and 0.999! Math is Crazy.

Memorizing Vocabulary

July 28, 2008 at 3:02 am (observations, Personal, stuff)

Recently, i’ve been studying for the SAT, and that means memorizing vocabulary. People have told me that I’m really good at memorizing stuff, but I don’t really think I am all that good. Really, the more you know about anything, the easier it is to memorize. Here are some tips:

  • If you read any “learn to memorize really quickly” book, it will just tell you to relate things to the most abstract, strange thing that you can imagine. Just like how dreams without any interesting features are easily forgotten, so are words. When you memorize a word, try to think of it in context with something incredibly strange. It can even be lewd or perverted, just as long as it works, and you don’t re-enact it in public xD. I won’t put an example here because… well, I don’t think I need to.

  • Another really useful method that I use 60% of the time is by taking parts of a word and then making a weird situation/sentence/story/etc. with that. What’s the difference between this and the tip above? Well in the one above, you take the whole word, so you need to know what it means, and then use the meaning to make the weirdest story you can think of. However, in this method, you simply take parts of a word to help you remind or tell you the definition itself. For example: the word enamored means charmed, or captivated. How do I remember this? Well the word amorous means passionately loving, so I think en (in) amor (love) with something, which clicks in my brain as : charmed or fond of something. It may be hard at first, which is why this method is a LOT easier if you know more and have more to associate with.

  • Sometimes, the sound of a word will help you remember its meaning. The word phlegmatic means calm (almost too calm), or impassive. Try saying the word “phlegmatic.” It comes out very slowly at the ‘plegm’ part. This helps me remember it as a boring, almost lazy word, which then helps me imagine someone who is boring and doesn’t respond much – calm or impassive. I’d have to say I’m a little phlegmatic. A Stoic, perhaps.

  • Learn roots! They help a lot when you are guessing what a word means. For example, “chron” means time, so if you have a word or question relatated with time, go for something with “chron” in it.

Well that’s all. Hopefully, it will help you on your journey in becoming a SAT-vocab spiting guru. Oh, one more thing, continue to review the vocab you learned the previous session so that you won’t forget them! Now go, apprentice!

Windows 7 Theme

July 25, 2008 at 10:56 pm (Personal, stuff) (, , )

Somebody told me about the new Windows coming out: Windows 7. Interested, I searched on yahoo for Windows 7. However, instead of info, I found a Theme for Windows XP that copies the looks of Windows 7! I gave it a try and bam. Here’s how it looks:

It looks very nice and “snazzy”, If that’s a word.

Yes I know somethings are in Korean…. Well, I’m Korean.

You can try this out yourself by going to:

Note: I used TuneUp Utilities 2008 to Install the theme extremely easily.

1337 sp3@|<

July 23, 2008 at 2:07 am (observations, stuff)

I’ve noticed how not everyone knows the language of the l33t or AKA leet speak. In everyone’s best interests, I’ll teach you how to use this wonderful language to advance your humor or just become more 1337.
So who uses it? Well, first of all I use it. And so do atleast 3/4 of the people who play counterstrike, Team Fortress, Starcraft, Warcraft, and so many other online games where you can pwn people bad.
With no further adu, here’s my dictionary:

  • A = @ , 4 , /| , /-| , /\ I mostly use @ or 4
  • B = |3 , 8 , 6
  • C = ( , < or just c
  • D = |) , 1)
  • E = 3 (Yes 3 is the best one.
  • F = |=
  • G = 6 or 9
  • H = |-| ,
  • I = 1
  • J = Just use J.
  • K = |c , |<
  • L = |_ , | , 1_ , 1
  • M = |\|\ , /l/l , (\/) /\/\
  • N = |\| , l\l
  • O = 0, []
  • P = |>
  • Q = Just use Q or q
  • R = |2 , l2
  • S = 5
  • T = 7
  • U = |_| , [_], l_l
  • V = \/
  • W = \|\| , |/|/ , \l\l , \/\/
  • X = ><
  • Y = Just use Y
  • Z = 2

Tips : Many characters are interchangable. For example, l (lowercase L) is changable with 1, | , [, ], /, \. So you can change it up however you want to.
For some letters, just use the letter itself. Q and Z and Y should just be used as it is.
Don’t use too many 1337 letters in one word, or else it gets too confusing, unless thats how you want it to be.
You might want to put spaces between each “letter” to make each discernable.

Thanks for reading my 1337 Dictionary. Hope its useful.

Bored? Me too. Me 2. m3 Too. M3 2……..

July 21, 2008 at 12:46 pm (stuff)

Everyone gets bored once in a while. We sit here in front of the computer screen, waiting for something to happen… and nothing does. Yes I feel your pain. That’s why I’ve personally collected some stuff that are fun to do or just addicting. Maybe when you’re doing these you’ll remember that you have a project due tomorrow. Thank me now.

  • I’ll start ambiguously. This Site has a game called Pteroglider. Apparently, it was a commercial flop, so the site has a FREE version of the FULL Game! By the way, its one of those games where you have a ship and you shoot unbelievable mega-lasers.
  • NotPron Well, I hope you understand the joke of “pr0n.” If you don’t, I WOULD tell you to google it, but I don’t know if you would like the results. Just ask some Computer Nerd or something. Anyways, kinda fun, kinda boring, but it’ll make you think.
  • GemCraft This is a Tower Defense Game. Basically, you just buy towers and upgrade them and keep enemies from reaching the end!
  • Lab In this little application, you can experiment by making your own machine!
  • Falling Sand Wow I have to admit, if someone doesn’t stop me, I can get pretty sucked up in this. Experiment, Experiment, Experiment!
  • Ask me how you can earn money during your free time. This is how I mainly spend “Bored time.” Trust me. I spend an hour atleast doing this. And I earn money! Not forcing you, which is why I’m ASKING you if you WANT to. leave a comment with email or email me.
  • IcanHasCheezburger? Title speaks for itself. Some are really funny and you can waste hours just skimming through the pics.
  • Join a forum! In fact, join many forums! This way, you can have a niche to go back to whenever you want!
  • Join a Blog! What I mean is, subscribe or bookmark blogs and check ‘em daily!
  • Here’s a site that has a lot of stuff you can do IRL (In Real Life). Don’t do it in public. Trust me.
  • Bubblewrap Like Bubblewrap? Well here’s a site that will fufill your poppin’ desires till the world’s end. Or the Internet’s. Or their server’s.
  • Check out onrpg.com and look at some Massive Multiplayer Online Roleplaying Games (MMORPG). A lot of them are free and just look on the forum and there is a sticky with a incredibly long list of MMORPGS.
  • Listen to music. What a classic. Also, look up music that is like yours.
  • Earn money by searching random crap. Nice eh? Once again, comment for this or email me.

That’s all from me. Hopefully you won’t get bored for atleast a year now. One last thing that you can do is, of course, check out my blog and share it to others! Aww geez. Thanks~Technorati Tags: , ,
